What Removing One Habit Taught Me About My Body, My Energy and My Standards
I don’t know about you, but this year I made a decision:
I’m resetting every area of my life—my health, my energy, my environment, and the way I care for myself.
Not in a rushed or restrictive way.
But in a way that feels intentional, embodied, and sustainable.
And surprisingly, one of the most powerful places this started…
was with my nails.
Why I Chose to Reset My Nails for a Year

For years, getting my nails done was part of my routine.
It made me feel polished, put together—like a small act of self-care.
But at some point, I had to ask myself a deeper question:
Is this actually supporting my wellbeing—or just my appearance?
That question changed everything.
So I made a commitment:
One full year without gel, acrylic, or harsh chemical treatments.
Not as a restriction—but as a reset.
What I Was Really Detoxing From
This wasn’t just about nails.
It was about awareness.
Many nail treatments expose us to chemicals that the body has to process over time. Even in small amounts, repeated exposure adds up.
And I realized something:
I didn’t want to normalize low-level toxicity in the name of beauty.
I wanted my choices to reflect how deeply I value my body.
What Changed (Beyond My Nails)
At first, it felt unfamiliar.
Even uncomfortable.
There’s a certain identity tied to always being “done.”
Letting that go—even temporarily—requires confidence.
But over time, something shifted.
My nails became stronger.
My cuticles became healthier.
My hands felt more nourished.
But the real shift was internal.
I felt more connected to my natural state.
More grounded in my choices.
More confident without needing to “add” anything.
And slowly, my definition of beauty began to evolve.
The Deeper Lesson: Raising My Standards
This experience wasn’t really about removing something.
It was about raising my standards.
Instead of asking:
“What can I get away with?”
I started asking:
“What truly supports my wellbeing?”
That shift doesn’t just apply to nails.
It applies to everything—what we eat, what we use, where we go, and who we trust with our bodies.
Reintroduction: Choosing With Intention
After a full year, I’m not going back to my old habits.
I’m moving forward with discernment.
If I choose to reintroduce something, it has to meet a new standard:
Clean ingredients.
A nourishing environment.
An experience that supports—not depletes—my energy.
This is no longer about convenience.
It’s about alignment.
