Affirmation of the Day:

Every cell in my body vibrates with energy and health.

By choosing high energy substances, I achieve the level of consciousness I crave. (Say 10 times in the mirror!)

Everyone has heard the advice "Drink more water." Today's 5 minute action step is pretty easy: Drink a liter of within 5 minutes. A liter of water in the morning will improve brain function by helping oxygen reach your cells. It will also improve digestion and help you detox. If it's hard to get into the habit of drinking water throughout the day so why not just kick things off by fullfilling part of you water requirement in 5 minutes? Repeat 30 mins before lunch and dinner.

Here are some of the top reasons to start your day off with a liter of water:

1. You will loose weight. Water will fill up your stomach and you won't be craving that Starbucks sausage and egg sandwich in the morning.

2. Your circulatory system will love you. Drinking water greatly reduces chances of a heart attack and improves oxygen levels in the blood.

3. You will feel more awake once your cells are hydrated properly.

4. You will reduce the chance of a headache or stomach ache throughout the day.

5. Your skin will look better if hydrated.

6. Water will remove toxins from the body.

What does visualization meditation have to do with a healthy body? Quite a lot! Doing visualization helps ground you in the moment and lets you refocus on your goals. Whereas it's easy to move from one minute to the next, meandering through life without paying attention to the larger goals of health and prosperity, a quick, 5-minute mediation will allow you to remember what really matters in the long-run. Today we will learn a meditation that will help increase your energy, reduce procrastination and align you with your health goals.

Start by finding a nice, comfortable place in the house where you can relax. Close your eyes and begin to breathe rhythmically. Make sure your shoulders are not tense.

Pay attention to your body. Notice where some areas may be more tense than others. Attempt to relax those areas as much as you can. Your mind will naturally drift to other thoughts, like what your boss said the other day, or how your significant other is doing, or perhaps something more mundane...like what you saw on TV.

Remember that the point of the meditation is not to think of these things. However, if they do come up, then don't reject them outright or attempt to force them out of your mind. Simply accept and give them space to coexist in you along with the intent of the meditation. With multiple attempts at this practice, it WILL become easier to focus on just one thing.

Next, consider the task that you wish to accomplish, the goal. In our case it is probably health-related or dietary, but actually this meditation can be used towards any goal you have for yourself. Ask the question: Why am I not reaching my goal in the way I want to? Maybe you don't have time, or energy, or you simply don't like the goal.

Consider how not meeting the goal impacts your life. Maintain an even and slow, steady breath. Think whether putting the goal off causes stress, or relieves it.

Think back again to the root cause of why you are not meeting your goal and let yourself sit with this reality. Accept it. If you are procrastinating for lack of energy, sit with that thought for a few seconds as well.

Now, start to consider the reasons why you wanted to reach that goal in the first place: A better life, a better body, a happier mind. Find the reason that speaks most strongly to you.

Repeat this reason to yourself several times and imagine what life would be like if you completed your goal. Smile with your heart after your 5 minutes is up and get started!

Declare Your Love in Your Birthday Suit

Posted by Koya on October 11, 2012 at 9:40 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Love!

Affirmation of the day (Say 10 times in mirror)

I am beautiful!

I'm creating my beautiful, perfect body NOW and I'm doing an amazing job!

Declare your love for every curve in your body

This may be the most difficult task I have recommended to you yet; more difficult than sprinting the block, practicing yoga, or eating raw vegan. Perhaps it's a testimony to the time we live in that expressively loving yourself can be the most challenging thing of all.

The instructions are simple: Take your clothes off, stand in front of a mirror, and declare your love for every curve on your body, without exception. The first time you do this you may not mean it. The second time you may not mean it. But with time, cultivating self-compassion will have a profound impact on your health outcome and sense of well-being.

There is nothing healthier than relating to your self positively. If you think about it, all unhealthy habits, at some point or another-- consciously or subconsciously-- stem from an absence of self-love. If you loved someone, would you ever do anything to them that would end their life several years early, or put them in a hospital? Of course not. Yet we routinely over-eat, smoke and poison our bodies in a way that shortens our lives and makes us miserable; a clear absence of love.

People spend millions of dollars to boost their self-esteem; buying cars, houses they don't need, getting cosmetic repair, tanning, and a host of other attempts to improve the way they feel about themselves. How great would it be if we could just be one with our body and mind? Today we take a small step but an important one. Today we stand naked, naked as the day we were born and simply...love ourselves... A radical concept, right?

Learn the Ancient Practice of Eye Yoga

Posted by Koya on October 11, 2012 at 9:35 PM Comments comments (0)

Hi Love!

Affirmation of the day (Say 10 times in mirror)

I look for the meaning of life within myself.

If you want to find a deeper meaning in your life, you can't find it in the opinions or the beliefs that have been handed to you. You have to go to that place within yourself.

Practice Eye Yoga

Eye yoga is an ancient Ayurvedic practice that will strengthen your eyes, reduce the chance of headache and improve concentration and vision. It is especially useful for someone who will spend the rest of the day trapped behind a computer screen.

Start by sitting down or standing up in a comfortable, quiet place. Remember, yoga, in its purest form, is a type of meditation. Make sure the TV isn't on, the coffee pot isn't running, and other distractions are gone from the room.

Take a deep breath through your nose, and release back through your nose. Keep a constant cycle of breath in and out of your nose, without stopping. Not too fast. Not too slow. Yogic practioners call this the Ujayi (pronounced oo-jai-yee) a life-filling breathing which will guide you through the practice. Don't hold the breath but allow an even cycle of air at all times.

Allow your mind to relax. Breathe in and out of the nose, again practicing your Ujayi breathing. Continue to extend through the spine and assume an upright, proud posture. Don't strain, but don't slouch either.

Begin looking at the tip of your nose. Don't blink. Let this happen naturally, don't force your eyes or try to make them do something which feels painful. Keep looking at your nose for 1 minute.

Now slowly, gently cross your eyes. Attempt to focus your gaze into the top of the bridge of your nose. Be mindful of any resistance your body has towards this. Don't force it but don't cease to focus on the intent either. Keep this pose for 1 minute.

Keeping your head still and never letting go of that breath, begin to turn your gaze towards your right shoulder. Hold this for 1 minute. Then close your eyes. Repeat with the left shoulder. Hold for 1 minute, then, relax.

Finally, lie down on your back and look up. Close your eyes, never letting go of the breath. Place your hands on top of your eyes. Feel the soothing warmth of your hand and relax the eyes along with the rest of your head. Hold for 1 minute.

Nothing will put a spring in your step like having the occasional raw meal. It's purifying and energizing. This nutritious raw food take on pasta Alfredo with side salad will leave your mouth watering. Here's what you need:

Prepare a bowl of warm to hot water. Take the zucchinis, peel the skin off or leave it on and use the peeler to create flat noodles.

Place the dates, lemon juice, sea salt, pepper, miso and water into the blender. Blend until creamy.

Chop the carrot, snap peas, baby tomatoes, and basil up to your preferred consistency. Mix the zucchini noodles with them in a large, serving bowl.

Schedule time for your success

Hi Love!

Affirmation of the day (Say 10 times in mirror)

I allow my life to be simple and clear!

As I unclutter my life, I free myself to receive my highest dreams and wishes.

Schedule times to read affirmations from your phone

In the past, people in this country often suffered most from physical conditions: Disease, lack of food, and war. Life was brutal and short. Today, we face a new set of challenges: Emotional pain, suffering which is completely controllable. The most distressing events most of us experience are workplace stress, interpersonal dificulties, relationship problems, depression, anxiety, weight gain, and other symptoms which can be stopped.

That is why you should set up and read afirmations from your phone. Throughout the hustle and bustle of your day, while your boss is waiting for that 5:00 PM deadline, and you hope there won't be trafic coming back from work, and you're thinking about how to plan the next weekend trip...take 5 minutes to read an afirmation. Here is one of my favorite afirmations from Wayne Dyer "As I unclutter my life, I free myself to answer the callings of my soul."

Although reading afirmations may seem luffy and fruitless, it is actually supported by a number of psychological studies. In 2008, researchers from Boston University took a group of 1,165 people, selected randomly. The group was screened for people with mental health disorders or recent tragedies in life. The researchers asked half of the group to practice positive afirmations for a few minutes a day, while they let the control group just go on living their life. The study found that 44% of the control group felt "signiicantly more stressed" than 46% of the test group. So you have at least a 50% chance of stress relief. I'd take my chances on this one!

A neat way I enjoy afirmations is from a smart phone app. Some of my favs are Afirmations! (for iPhone), Unique Daily Afirmations (for iPhone) and Positive Afirmations (for Android).
